26 MONDAY Schubas and the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations stage the second debate in the series GOAt (Globally Occupying the Attention of Chicago’s Untapped Audience, possibly the worst acronym ever). Designed to attract a younger demographic than the council’s usual staid and pricey events, the series invites policy wonks to discuss foreign affairs in the bar’s cozy back room. Tonight University of Chicago political scientist Daniel Drezner and Kennette Benedict, the MacArthur Foundation’s director of international peace and security, debate whether current American security policy really keeps democracy safe and whether terrorism is the communism of the 21st century; musician Jon Langford moderates, and will play a set afterward. It starts tonight at 7 at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport; call 312-821-7529. Admission is $10 and you must be 18 or over.
